Amongst the plethora of public figures who are open about their mental health and meditation practise, is the former One Direction member and global star, Harry Styles. Styles stated in 2019 to Rolling Stone that he faced a lot of anxiety whilst in One Direction due to fears of messing up on stage. This then led to him collaborating with the meditation app, Calm - where he provided a bedtime story for them.
"Sleep and meditation are a huge part of my routine, whether I’m at home, in the studio, or out on the road. Rest and recovery is as important as doing the work. Finding a balance has been endlessly beneficial to both my physical and mental health."
Styles also discussed in an interview with Zane Lowe, how he has approached therapy now. He became more open-minded to the concept upon his move to California as he observed that it was a very common practise for the people of California. Whereas, he says that it's a "very British way of looking at it" to consider you don't need therapy.
As a result, Styles encourages all to seek the help they need if they ever consider it. We should all take a note from Harry's book - noting that rest is as important as doing the work.
