Despite the ongoing storm affecting this years series of I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here - there's already been lots of ups and downs affecting the camp. One being, former Strictly Come Dancing judge - Arlene Phillips. She has described missing her home, wanting to leave and confining in fellow campmate, Naughty Boy as he reminds her of her children. So, how has this choreographer learned to deal with these emotions, and the pressure of a Bushtucker Trial?
You guessed it! Mindfulness meditation. Before entering the camp, Arlene Phillips has been learning breathing exercises to help her deal with her fears when she inevitably will face creepy-crawlies and other such horrors in the camp. When discussing her practise she says:
"I have been learning to breathe through my nose. I usually breathe through my mouth but now I know I have to keep that shut and find my centre.I put my hands on my ribs, breathe through my nose and that is my constant. And as I do that, I’m imagining whatever might be coming in my face or around my neck. I’m going to try to find a place that I can go to that will take me away from what is really happening. It’s going to be about being in the moment."
Similarly, last year's contestant Jordan North demonstrated a meditation practise by going to his 'happy place' when feeling panicky in a trial. At Meditation Rocks we use the Happy Place technique often in our sessions, and like Arlene we focus on how meditation is about being in the moment, feeling present and without judgement.
It is great to see this practise being discussed so publicly as it can be such a helpful and important part of people's lives.
