The Liverpool player has a series of celebration poses for a post-goal score - including ones you may see in a yoga or meditation practise.
His most popular celebratory pose is the 'tree' pose seen in yoga. This pose signifies balance and grounding - leading one yoga teacher to speculate this is Salah expressing his commitment to the Liverpool football team.
When asked about this specific pose, Salah expressed his passion for the practise,
"I am a yoga man! I do yoga and it just came into my mind."
Extending on the meaning behind this, yoga teacher Emma Stubbs explained that Salah choosing to keep his prayer formation in front of his chest on his heart centre "is a way of showing honour to yourself and to the other people close to you, of recognising your soul." It represents peace within the community and we enjoy seeing how Salah incorporates his practise into the field. Similarly, he has also celebrated with a simple meditation pose, crossing his legs with a mudra. Experts would say that yoga and meditation is beneficial to all, but especially those in sport.
Our founder, Lucy Stone has taught and worked with sportspeople and is amongst those who understands the importance of mindfulness within sports.
