As the weather is getting colder, and the need for heat is more dire - we thought we would let you know of the health benefits of eating soup. As EatingWell rightfully put it, "soup is good for the soul - and the rest of you too."
Starting off with minerals and vitamins, soup can add all of these good bits to your diet due to the increase of vegetables found in soup recipes. Soup-eaters can be found to have higher intakes of fibre, vitamin A, magnesium, iron and potassium.
Speaking of potassium - as EatingHealth mention, potassium is good for heart health as it encourages your body to bring down the sodium levels. Sodium can raise blood pressure, but potassium can bring that right back down.
Overall, the best soups for you with the most beneficial effects are vegetable and broth-based soups as they can provide plenty of nutrients such as vitamins, minerals and fibre - whilst being low in calories and fat. As well as this, eating soup may provide extra health benefits including lower body weight and increased water intake - and we know how important water intake is!
Just be sure to look out for thickening agents like full fat milk, heavy cream and other such elements as they reduce the healthy impacts we have just mentioned.
So, why not keep yourself warm this autumn season with a hearty bowl of tomato soup or even make your own vegetable soup!
